HANOVER — Russell P. "Russ" Newquist, 92, entered into God's eternal care on Monday, Jan. 14,2013, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.

Born Jan. 9, 1921, in Red Oak, Iowa, he was a son of the late Harry C. and Magdalene (Dumler) Newquist. He lived in Red Oak, Iowa, and Omaha, Neb., where he was raised and went to school.

During his school years, Russ was an outstanding athlete in golf, wrestling and football.

After graduation, he joined the Army Air Corps in 1941. Russell became a decorated pilot during World War II and flew 35 combat bombing missions over Germany.

Russell married Doris A. Andal, on Dec. 23, 1943. She preceded him in death in 1979.

Following his discharge from the military, he was employed by Flooring Contractors Inc., a well-­known flooring company in Rockville, Md. While living and working in Maryland, he met and married Madaleine Virginia Arnett (Lamb), who preceded him in death in 2008. Russ retired in 1982 and relocated to Hanover.

Surviving are three siblings and their spouses, Harry Richard "Dick" Newquist, of Omaha, Neb., Scott and Mary Newquist, of Universal City, Texas, and Sharon (Newquist) and Harold Johnson; a stepson and spouse, Wayne M. and BethAdele Lamb; four grandchildren, Benjamin A. Lamb, Madaleine A. Hinton, Danielle G. Lamb and Henry R.T. Lamb;; four great grandchildren, Nicolas Lamb, Ashley Lamb, Luke Hinton and Abagail Hinton, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Merle C. Newquist.
